I know of two publications in 1975 that used the term "second system effect" or "second-systemitis".
1: Brooks' _Mythical Man-Month_. 2: Bell's and Streeker's "What We Learned From the PDP-11". Does anyone know of earlier usage of this term or earlier names for this effect, possibly outside of computers? Tim.
