Dear CCP4 community, I will be starting my group at VIB-AI and KU Leuven (https://pereiralab.sites.vib.be/en) next year in February and I am recruiting a postdoc for an interdisciplinary project in the intersection between structural bioinformatics, protein evolution and AI. The main aim is to develop interdisciplinary and integrative tools and approaches to better interpret the massive and ever-growing protein sequence, structure, and function data in public repositories.
This includes, but is not limited to: * the classification and function prediction of novel protein families and superfamilies, * the interpretation of evolutionary relationships in large protein similarity networks, * the prediction and modeling of protein function association networks, * the in-depth study of the origins, evolution and biological functions of novel prokaryotic protein families with a direct impact on human health or a potential for novel biotechnological or biomedical applications. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in developing computational methods to predict, label, model and map the protein universe on a large scale. The ideal candidate has the following qualifications: * PhD in structural bioinformatics, computational biology, computer sciences, or related disciplines * You can strengthen our team in at least two of the following areas: protein bioinformatics, protein evolution, metagenomics, computational protein design, data science * Experience and interest in modern data analytics techniques and AI/ML * Good communication skills in English * Self-motivation, drive and ability to define new research directions * Open to working in interdisciplinary collaborations with experimental lab. We aim to build an interdisciplinary team and value diversity in skill sets. We thus encourage applicants with a keen interest in contributing to groundbreaking research at the intersection of protein bioinformatics and machine learning to apply. As the Pereira Lab is just starting, the postdoc will also play a prominent leadership role and will help to shape the overall lab environment and research direction. More information can be found here: https://jobs.vib.be/j/93314/postdoc-in-protein-computational-biology-structural-bioinformatics. How to apply? Candidates are required to submit their application via our online form available at https://jobs.vib.be/j/93314/postdoc-in-protein-computational-biology-structural-bioinformatics. The ideal starting date is March or April 2025, with a starting contract of 2 years, and the possibility of an extension. A complete application file (in English) should contain the following documents: * A cover/motivation letter stating career goals, past experience, and how these relate to the current position and the goals of the Pereira Lab * Your CV * Contact information of 2 references * Interested candidates should submit their candidacy through the VIB online application tool.
