Dear Colleagues,

Join us for the inaugural Gateway Ion Channel Symposium (GICS), an inspiring
event at the Van Andel Institute, Grand Rapids, MI, from June 5-7, 2024. Set in
the heart of the Midwest, which is the gateway between coastal portions of the
United States, GICS is designed to feature junior faculty members and trainees
working in the ion channel field. We offer a platform for emerging scientists
to present their research, engage in scientific discussions, share innovative
ideas, and seek career advice. We are committed to fostering an inclusive
environment that promotes collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the ion
channel community.

The GICS provides a unique forum for attendees to showcase their research and
participate in in-depth discussion about the latest advances related to ion
channel science. Our program will include keynote presentations from renowned
expert in the field, interactive presentations by trainees and junior faculty
members, poster sessions, and ample time for discussion. This symposium is an
ideal setting for networking, with opportunities to connect with peers,
establish new relationships, and meet potential collaborators.

This event is particularly significant for those who are at the early stages of
their careers, specializing in ion channel research. We encourage senior
researchers to attend to support and mentor the emerging generation of
scientists. A unique feature of our symposium is an individualized coaching
program for trainee speakers, which will provide personalized guidance and
constructive feedback on their presentations. In a first-of-its kind
initiative, we will collect and share audience feedback with speakers,
fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Another highlight is a special session for ‘Rising Stars’ to feature
postdoctoral researchers currently navigating the job market and seeking
faculty positions. This session aims to spotlight their work and aspirations,
offering them a unique platform to connect with potential opportunities,
particularly in the Midwest region.

The Gateway Ion Channel Symposium is more than just a conference. Participation
will provide a pivotal step in career development along with valuable
opportunities to contribute to and learn from a vibrant community of scientists
who are advancing the frontiers of knowledge in the ion channel field. We
invite you to join us for an enriching experience that promises not only to
inspire but also to elevate scientific discourse in ion channel research.
