Dear colleagues,

We have an opening in my lab group at HWI for a postdoctoral associate. Please
pass this along to anyone who might be interested.

Warmly,
Sarah

CURRENT OPENING: POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE

The Bowman Lab at Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI) seeks a
postdoctoral associate to work on a funded NIH R01 Technology Development
grant. We are looking for someone who is excited to use and develop structural
biology methods for small protein crystals. This collaborative project involves
developing nano- and microcrystal growth methods, crystal sample imaging and
handling experiments, as well as data collection and structural solutions. This
is an ideal position for a creative scientist who is passionate about
structural biology and wants to work in an exciting and collaborative group.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to use a number of structural
biology methods, including synchrotron X-ray crystallography and microcrystal
electron diffraction, with options to also engage with X-ray Free Electron
Laser experiments and single particle CryoEM experiments. The position offers
the opportunity to work closely with teams at the National High-Throughput
Crystallization (HTX) Center and the CryoEM Center, both located at HWI in
Buffalo, NY.

REQUIRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

     * PhD in a relevant field
     * Ability to design and perform laboratory experiments with deep
attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
     *   Strong problem-solving skills
     * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced
research environment
     * Excellent written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

     * Experience in protein structure determination
     *   Strong computational skills
     * Knowledge of protein biochemistry, recombinant protein expression,
and/or other molecular biology methods

We welcome all applicants who have a passion for structural biology research
and an interest in technology development.

TO APPLY:

Please send a cover letter describing your interest in the position and your
career goals, as well as a current CV and contact information (name, phone, and
email) for three references to Sarah Bowman, PhD to: sbowman at hwi.buffalo.edu

Bowman directs, as well as the recently opened HWI CryoEM Center in Buffalo,
NY. HWI also manages the IMCA-CAT beamline 17-ID at the Advanced Photon Source
at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL.

The postdoctoral associate position will be based in Buffalo, NY. Application
review will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.
The compensation level for this full-time position will be competitive and
