Dear All, A postdoctoral position is available in my lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago. Research in the lab is centered at the interface of chemistry and biology. We are interested in the structure and function of molecular machines involved in post-transcriptional and post-translational modifications, such as mRNA methylation and protein ubiquitination. Structural biology techniques including X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy are used in the lab. UChicago has a long tradition of research excellence and a stimulating environment. It also has a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility housing a Titan Krios, an incoming Glacios, an Aquilos cryo-FIB and a VolumeScope. In addition, UChicago operates Argonne National Laboratory for the Department of Energy, which is home to the Advanced Photon Source (APS), one of the world’s largest synchrotron facilities. The position will be fully funded by UChicago and NIH under NIH guidelines. Qualified applicants should have or expect a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology or related fields, be highly self-motivated, and demonstrate ability for rigorous scientific research with publications in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate is expected to have expertise in molecular biology and a strong ability to learn new techniques. Previous experience in structural biology is desired but not required. Experience in chemical biology, protein engineering, cell biology and protein biochemistry is a plus.
