Dear all, (On behalf of Prof. Achilleas Frangakis and the EFFORT team)
A postdoc position is available in the group of Prof. Achilleas Frangakis, at the Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany, in collaboration with partners of the EFFORT consortium, to study efflux pumps using single-particle microscopy and cryo-electron tomography. The mission of the candidate will be to conduct structural and biophysical characterization of the RND efflux pumps from pathogens, by using single-particle cryo-EM. Additionally, efflux pumps will be characterised in their native state using cryo-electron tomography. Diligent, independent and committed candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. thesis in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology or similar disciplines. The EFFORT consortium is developing a newly discovered class of Efflux Pump Inhibitors that can boost the activity of a plethora of antibiotics, making them much more effective. EFFORT consortium partners are: medicinal chemistry (Pr M. Flipo, U1177), chemical biology of antibiotics (Dr. R C Hartkoorn), bacterial efflux pumps and structure/functional biology (Pr. K M. Pos, University of Frankfurt, Germany) and cryo-electron tomography (Pr. A. Frangakis, University of Frankfurt, Germany). The EFFORT consortium is funded by an international – French (ANR) and German (BMBF) call for projects on antimicrobial resistance. Application deadline is August 31st, 2021.
