Dear all,

I have an open PhD student position in my research group, which is joint
between the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Max-Planck-Institute
for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany.

Our team studies the structure and function of molecular machineries involved
in gene expression in eukaryotic cells and organelles. We are particularly
interested in the mechanisms underlying gene expression in human mitochondria
and how this process is embedded in the cellular context. To study this, we
combine structural biology (single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, X-Ray
crystallography and cryo-electron tomography) with biochemical, biophysical and
cell biological approaches to dissect mitochondrial processes from the atomic
to the organellar scale.

We are a small and international team and are looking for enthusiastic,
open-minded candidates to join us in our quest to understand mitochondrial
molecular biology. Applicants should hold a degree in the life sciences or a
related field. Previous experience in structural biology or protein
biochemistry is advantageous, but not required. The position is fully funded
and the salary will be in accordance with the German public sector payscale
(TV-L).

The application deadline is April 30, 2021.

Feel free to contact me for any informal inquiries.
I would be very grateful if you could disseminate this ad to any candidates you
believe may be interested!

Best,
Hauke Hillen
