A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of
Dr. Doryen Bubeck<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/d.bubeck> at Imperial
College London starting Feb. 2021. The post is funded for 3 years by a European
Research Council Consolidator Grant. The main objective of the post is to use
structural biology to characterise the 3D structure and mode of action of
complement protein complexes in model membranes, building off our recently
published structures of the complement membrane attack complex (Serna et al.,
2016 Nature Communications<https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms10587>; Menny
et al., 2018 Nature
Communications<https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-018-07653-5>).

Complement plays an important role in innate immunity; however uncontrolled
activation can damage human cells. Broadly, the goal of this project is to
understand how cells protect themselves from damage during an immune response.
This post provides an exciting opportunity to work as a key member of an
interdisciplinary structural biology project that has the potential to impact
complement therapeutics.

The posts will be based at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College
London, in the Department of Life Sciences. The Imperial College Centre for
Structural Biology is a state-of-the-art electron microscopy facility with
regular access to Titan Krios facilities at eBIC (Diamond Light Source) and the
London Consortium for cryoEM (LonCEM).
