Dear Colleagues,

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is seeking an 
Assistant/Associate Professor (Research Track) to manage our new cryo-EM 
facility. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to be involved in 
development of the facility from its early stages through to a fully 
operational world-class facility that makes cryo-EM related resources and 
techniques accessible to investigators at UTHSA.  The facility will be equipped 
with a Thermo Fisher Scientific, 200kV Glacios TEM equipped with a Falcon 4 
direct electron detector and Selectris Imaging Filter, along with all standard 
equipment for single particle EM sample preparation. The successful candidate 
will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility, general lab 
maintenance/operations, sample preparation, and user training.   The candidate 
should be a motivated and highly interactive individual and will have the 
opportunity to collaborate with internal users and external researchers in 
cryo-EM-focused research projects. The candidate will also help support 
resource development and the development of grant applications.
 
Preferred qualifications:
· Must have the ability to manage a multi-user research facility.
· Must be able analyze scientific results/data, communicate effectively with 
faculty, students, staff, vendors, and service engineers, keep accurate and 
clear records, actively participate in the planning and writing of 
center-related grant proposals as needed, keep abreast of scientific literature 
concerning relevant new instrumentation, data processing, specimen preparation 
and imaging techniques.
· Previous experience training students and staff in the operation of 
transmission electron microscopes and downstream data processing/analysis.
· Previous experience with transmission electron microscope alignments and 
maintenance, servicing or accessory equipment servicing and maintenance.
· Expertise with data processing software for single particle analysis, 
including Relion and Cryosparc.
