Dear All

Diamond is planning a transformational upgrade which will enhance all beamlines
and provide new scientific opportunities (details
here<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/Home/About/Vision/Diamond-II.html>).

A set of ‘flagship’ projects are being developed across Life and Physical
Sciences, but we can’t do them all. In December, our advisory committees will
prioritize them. A major consideration in this will be the strength of
community support.

There are 13 proposals in total, 5 from Life Science (click to download a pdf
summary):

• Re-invention of ultra-high throughput fragment
screening<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/dam/jcr:bd879384-900b-4a2c-897d-a8e0e818c6e8/MX%20-%20I04-1%20XChem%20reinvention%20as%20K04%20XChem.pdf>

• Upgrade of a microfocus beamline for far better cryo, room temp and
serial
work<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/dam/jcr:add3277b-5bc2-4e8b-93a2-25d1e0e585f6/MX%20-%20I24%20KMX:%20kinetics%20and%20microfocus%20upgrade.pdf>

• High throughput and cryo-ptychography for micron imaging up to tissue
scale<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/dam/jcr:643fcf03-2f02-41c8-9af5-cf0c4b08ea09/Imaging%20&%20Microscopy%20-%20Upgrade%20I13%20for%20high%20throughput%20and%20cryo-ptychography.pdf>

• Large Volume Nanoscale BioImaging Beamline: next generation hard X-ray
imaging<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/dam/jcr:e881c571-a76b-408b-b8ec-8be8a8530f34/Bio-Imaging%20-%20Large%20Volume%20Nanoscale%20BioImaging%20Beamline.pdf>

• X-ray scattering across length scales, X-ray footprinting and single
molecule
dynamics<https://www.diamond.ac.uk/dam/jcr:85a5da25-e300-45ae-9876-bc1f24490be3/Soft%20Condensed%20Matter%20-%20New%20High%20flux%20X-ray%20Beamline%20(X4SCM).pdf>

We have a simple
web-form<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=dLonnQABDU2B_x1yja6N9sORn9fQKRxBrdwp3-jvXxFURTZRTU9VM1I2VVZEVEVFS1hJTlNHUThISi4u%C2%A0>
to submit Statements-of-Support for any proposals. Statements can be short and
to the point. You don’t need to be an existing Diamond user, and we welcome
support from PhD students through to PIs and from academia to industry.

As always Diamond is only as good as its users, and we are critically dependent
on your voices.

Deadline end-of-day Tuesday 24th November, click
here<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=dLonnQABDU2B_x1yja6N9sORn9fQKRxBrdwp3-jvXxFURTZRTU9VM1I2VVZEVEVFS1hJTlNHUThISi4u%C2%A0>
 to register support

Many thanks,

Gwyndaf Evans, Dave Hall, Rob Rambo, David Stuart, Martin Walsh
