Courtesy to the Corona crisis, I am now separated from my Linux

You need a "Linux workstation" at home.
I can't think why middle mouse doesn't work for you and I don't use
WinCoot. Presumably middle-mouse works for other applications?
FWIW, I almost never middle-mouse click on an atom (it's too slow as it
requires an accurate pick, and the scroll wheel is the most difficult
button to click) - I use fast residue navigation ("Ctrl-G") and
go-to-blob ("G") (and then update-go-to-atom-from-current-residue (the
"P" key) if needed).
