Today Lonza is a global leader in life sciences. We are more than 15,000
employees in more than 100 locations around the world. While we work in
science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific
solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help
businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers.
Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of
work we want to be part of.

A new position has become available in Cambridge for a Senior Scientist
experienced in bioinformatics and structure-based protein engineering to join
Lonza's Applied Protein Services (APS) Bioinformatics team (all types of
proteins considered).

The successful candidate will work on multiple customer projects focusing on in
silico assessments and structure-based protein design/engineering. It includes
the use of our proprietary platforms for antibody humanisation and
deimmunisation, and developability (immunogenicity and manufacturability) risk
assessments.

In addition, the role will involve maintenance and development of multiple
proprietary platforms.

Key responsibilities:

•To perform structure-based antibody and other protein engineering to enhance
the developability of potential biotherapeutics for customers
•To perform expert sequence- and structure-based risk assessments
•Program/script to support the development and maintenance of proprietary
platforms and algorithms (knowledge of Python is essential; Perl is an
advantage)
•Work in both Linux and Windows environments
•To perform in silico antibody humanisation and deimmunisation
•To perform in silico immunogenicity risk assessments using Lonza’s proprietary
Epibase® T-cell epitope prediction platform
•To perform in silico manufacturability risk assessments and antibody
aggregation risk prediction using Lonza’s proprietary Sentinel APART platform
•To author high quality reports for clients and in-house development work
•Share responsibility for maintenance and update of software, databases,
systems and servers
•To communicate project updates to internal and external clients

Key requirements:

•PhD in Bioinformatics/Structural Biology/Chemistry/Physics with a focus on
