3-year PhD position at the Freie Universität Berlin

A joint PhD position is available in the labs of Markus Wahl and Sutapa
Chakrabarti (at the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Freie Universität
Berlin) to work on structural and biochemical aspects of proteins involved in
eukaryotic mRNA processing pathways. The focus of the project is understanding
the role of specific RNA helicases in facilitating mRNA degradation, using
structural biology (X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM) as a tool. The Wahl and
Chakrabarti labs are conveniently located within a wider RNA- and structural
biochemistry network of the Freie Universität and of Berlin at large. PhD
students will therefore have the opportunity to perform exciting research in a
dynamic, collaborative and competitive atmosphere. Furthermore, an
international collaboration is an integral part of the proposed project.

More information about the Wahl and Chakrabarti groups can be found at:

https://www.bcp.fu-berlin.de/en/chemie/biochemie/research-groups/chakrabarti-group/index.html

The ideal candidate will hold a Masters degree in Biochemistry (or related
disciplines) and have a strong interest in protein-RNA biochemistry and
structural biology. Good communication skills, strong motivation and the
ability to work in a team are essential. Prior experience in molecular biology
and protein/RNA biochemistry will be greatly valued.

Interested candidates are invited to apply with their CV, transcripts, a short
description of their Masters thesis project (or other equivalent internships)
and the contact information of two referees. Applications should be submitted
by e-mail only (to chakr...@zedat.fu-berlin.de); please include the keywords
RNA helicase in the subject line of your email.

With best wishes,
Sutapa
