*Research Associate position at Harvard Medical School* Previous EM experience is helpful but NOT required. A position of EM Research Associate (with lab managing responsibility) is immediately available in the Laboratory of Maofu Liao (https://liao.hms.harvard.edu/) at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
This position provides a valuable opportunity of being trained to be an EM specialist and entering the booming field of cryo-EM. *Primary Responsibilities:* (1) Train new EM users and assist other lab member’s EM experiments, after mastering all relevant EM techniques including sample preparation, microscope operation and data collection. (2) Manage the laboratory (maintaining lab inventories, chemical inventory, equipment maintenance schedules, arranging chemical waste collection, lab safety protocols, communicating with building and department management, and assisting the training of new lab members). *Required Education and Qualifications:* Master or Ph.D. degree is required. Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience is required. Excellent organization skills and strong communication skills are essential. *Other Useful Skills:* Previous experience of lab managing is highly desired. Experience in protein biochemistry and structural biology is helpful. The candidate should be patient, detail-oriented, and enjoy working with other lab members and assisting other people’s experiments. *About the Liao laboratory and EM environment* The Liao laboratory focuses on using single-particle cryo-EM to study the structure and function of membrane proteins and DNA-protein complexes. Within the past four years, the Liao laboratory has generated a number of high-resolution cryo-EM reconstructions documented in several recent publications (https://liao.hms.harvard.edu/publications).
