Dear all,

A post-doctoral position is open in the group of Inari Kursula at the Faculty
of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (FBMM), University of Oulu, Finland.
Funding is available for 3 years, and the starting date is negotiable but
should be as soon as possible. The project will concern structural and
functional studies on the actin-myosin motor of the malaria parasite. We are
looking for a highly motivated candidate with a keen interest in using a wide
range of structural biology, biochemical/biophysical, and/or imaging methods
for understanding molecular mechanisms of cell motility. Solid experience in
molecular biology and recombinant protein expression and purification,
preferably from both bacterial and eukaryotic systems, is essential. Depending
on the successful candidate’s expertise and interests, the focus of the project
could be more in structural biology (in particular X-ray crystallography) or
imaging by fluorescence and electron microscopy.

FBMM in Oulu has outstanding facilities for molecular biology and protein
science, including state-of-the-art protein production, crystallography, and
biochemical/biophysical characterization facilities. Also Biocenter Oulu core
facilities for e.g. microscopy and proteomics are available for us. In
addition, we have a large network of international collaborators, especially in
the field of parasitology/cell biology. Part of my research group will soon be
located at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen, Norway. It is
expected that work may partly be performed in these collaborating laboratories.

Informal inquiries and applications should be sent by e-mail to

include a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and contact information for
2-3 referees. The application deadline is 17.4.2015.

Kind regards,
Inari
