The MX-group at HZB/BESSY II (Berlin) is operating three beamlines for macromolecular crystallography (see: http://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/bessy-mx) . These facilities are currently the most productive MX-stations in Germany with more 200 new PDB-entries annually. The facilities are used by more then 80 international research groups on a regular basis, and the are tightly integrated into the Berlin structural biology community (currently 14 independent MX research groups).
The HZB-MX group is seeking for the next possible entry date: a Postdoctoral Scientist (f/m) Payment according to the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD). The employment contract is limited to 3 years. Assignments: The successful candidate will be working in an international research group for synchrotron based structural biology at the Third generation synchrotron radiation source BESSY II in Berlin under the guidance of Dr. Uwe Mueller and Dr. Manfred S. Weiss. He/she will be involved in the development of the experimental stations for MX and the X-ray diffraction methodology at our beamlines. Research project may be chosen from the following topics: * Synchrotron based fragment screening (Methodology development and its application) * New methods for long wavelength phasing * Radiation damage of macromolecules in crystalline state * Structure and function-relationship of medically relevant human proteins You will also be supporting international user groups at the beamlines and you are participating as a tutor within university student courses. Qualifications: You hold a PhD in natural sciences and have recent experiences within the field of macromolecular crystallography. Ideally you have been involved in ligand screening and/or the utilization of spectroscopy methods in structural biology respectively. Application procedure: Applicants should send their application including a cover letter, CV, list of publications and 2 referees, quoting reference no. F 2014/17 to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Abteilung Personal und Soziales, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, 14109 Berlin. Electronic submission by sending a single pdf-file is the preferred format. E-Mail: j...@helmholtz-berlin.de<mailto:j...@helmholtz-berlin.de> Further Information: Dr. Uwe Müller Tel. +49-30-806214974 Closing Date: 31.12.2014 As HZB endeavors to increase the number of women working in the scientific field, women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference to others of equal qualification.
