VACANCY - (SENIOR) POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN GENE EXPRESSION FOR
STRUCTURAL GLYCOBIOLOGY, University of York, UK

We wish to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to work on the expression of
mammalian genes, for 3-D structural and chemical mechanistic studies, in
the area of eukaryotic glycobiology in health and disease. The project is
funded by the ERC and will be supervised by Professor Gideon Davies, FRS,
in the York Structural Biology Laboratory (YSBL).

The appointment will be made at either Grade 7 (Senior Researcher level -
£36,298 - £44,607 pa) or Grade 6 (£29,541 - £36,298 pa), on the University
of York's salary scales, depending on qualifications and experience. The
post is available from September 2013 for a period of up to 56 months.

The post holder will be responsible for the preparation of gene constructs
for the expression of mammalian carbohydrate-active enzyme genes,
expression of these genes in mammalian and insect cell lines and the
production and characterization of recombinant proteins for structural
studies. At senior researcher level, responsibilities would include
coordinating the work of the project team in this area.

You will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in biochemistry or
molecular biology and demonstrable skill, knowledge and experience in the
over-expression of genes in insect cells and /or mammalian systems. The
post will also involve extensive protein production, purification and
characterization and experience in these areas is also required.

In addition, for an appointment at Senior Researcher level you will require
the ability to co-ordinate a team and organise complex work packages, as
well as an appropriate depth of scientific experience.
