Dear All, thanks very much for the various suggestions--I finally made the connection. A good point was also made that gene synthesis is becoming ever cheaper (~$0.28/bp) so maybe PCRing from genomic DNA is not always advisable. I'll keep this in mind for the future, although for this one I had my reasons for going for the gDNA.
