Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development La Jolla, have two open positions for talented and creative research scientists in the Structural Biology Group, Department of Cancer Research Chemistry. The successful candidates will have significant experience in a number of sub-disciplines of structural biology and their applications to structure based drug design and protein science aspects of drug discovery projects. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated an ability to apply innovative and high quality research to answer challenging and unprecedented structural biology and protein science questions and who desire to apply these abilities to challenging targets in the oncology therapeutic area. Experience in signal transduction structural biology and biochemistry would be an advantage. The positions will be filled at the level of Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist.
Position 1 will primarily focus on the following areas: 1) crystallization and iterative co-crystallization of oncology protein targets with small molecules to drive SBDD platforms. 2) design of protein crystallization constructs using bioinformatics resources and homology model building. 3) biophysical characterization (e.g. ITC, SPR, AUC, DSC) of proteins and protein-ligand complexes to facilitate protein crystallization and protein science studies. 4) protein purification. Position 2 will primarily focus on the following areas: 1) x-ray data collection and structure determination of ligand bound precedented and novel targets. 2) biophysical characterization (e.g. SAXS, ITC, SPR, AUC, DSC) of proteins and protein-ligand complexes to facilitate protein crystallization and protein science studies. 3) crystallization and iterative co-crystallization of oncology protein targets with small molecules to drive SBDD platforms. Candidates will also possess the following skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, and good presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills which facilitate knowledge sharing and scientific discussions. Ability to quickly and effectively operate, communicate and influence decision making within cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams comprising; biochemists, biologists, chemists, crystallization scientists, protein scientists and x-ray crystallographers. Minimum requirements for candidates are a PhD and Postdoctoral experience in Structural Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related field. 3-5 years of drug discovery experience in Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical sectors would be an advantage.
