*Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Macromolecular Structure Determination * A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Taylor Structural Biology Lab in the Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
Our work focuses on the structure and function of macromolecular machines. We study a number of fundamental biological pathways including: 1) telomere maintenance, extension and protection, 2) mRNA maturation and 3) ribosome biogenesis and assembly. The goal of our work is to understand the mechanisms that drive functional transitions and the characterization of ligand binding during these critical processes. We are also interested in how abrogation of the intricate interactions results in diseases such as cancer. The primary methods we use are electron microscopy and x-ray crystallography. Various biophysical and biochemical methods are used to complement the two primary techniques. Case Western Reserve University and the Department of Pharmacology have excellent resources including: a 200kV FEG-equipped FEI TF20 cryo-EM, a 120kV LaB6 filament-equipped FEI T12 cryo-EM, Mosquito and Phoenix crystallization robots, and a Rigaku x-ray diffractometer. State of the art light microscopy and mass spectrometry core facilities are also available. Applicant qualifications include a strong background in any of the following areas: 1) Electron microscopy or x-ray crystallography; 2) Quantitative Biophysics, Biochemistry, Structural or Computational Biology; 3) Protein expression and purification or large-scale mammalian tissue culture. We seek highly motivated, creative scientists who enjoy an open, collaborative environment.
