This is normal, maybe not expected or OK, but the normal behaviour.
Then trying to open a coordinate file (either from a folder or via a download) it leads to the message appearing :- python.exe has stopped working.
This is indeed a serious bug, and one reported by quite a few Windows users, particularly windows 7. I unfortunately use Vista. I will try to access a Windows 7 machine asap to see if I can see the same problems.
