are operating three experimental stations for bio-macromolecular
crystallography at BESSY, one of the world's most modern synchrotron
radiation sources for VUV and soft X-rays.
The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Freie
Universität Berlin is seeking a
Post Doctoral Research Assistant
to support operation of the BESSY bio-macromolecular crystallography
beamlines (headed by Dr. Uwe Mueller), participate in
graduate student education and to conduct research at the Laboratory for
Structural Biochemistry (headed by Prof. Dr. Markus Wahl)
of the Freie Universität Berlin. We are initially offering a three-year
contract with the possibility for an extension. The salary will be
based on German Federal BAT-IIa (i.d.F.d. Anw.-TV FUB). The position is
immediately available.
The successful candidate will support beamline users in data collection
and analysis, participate in the development, implementation
and commissioning of beamline instrumentation, collaborate closely with
the structural biochemistry community in Berlin and pursue
his/her own research program in the fields of RNA-based macromolecular
machines or membrane receptors. Applicants should hold a
Ph.D. in the biological, chemical or physical sciences and have a strong
background in all aspects of bio-macromolecular crystallography,
in particular in the use of the relevant computer programs. The position
also requires the documented ability to conduct independent research
as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
