Dear all, I would like to draw your attention to a scientific computing position currently open at AstraZeneca. This is a fixed term position in the Computational Chemistry group in Alderley Park to support the high-performance computing environment as part of the system administration team.
JED. --- Scientific Computing - Fixed Term Position Location Alderley Park (Cheshire) AstraZeneca is committed to the exploitation of state-of-the-art computing technology in drug research. The computational chemistry group at Alderley Park has an established high-performance computing (HPC) environment and contributes to drug discovery projects across a large number of drug targets and therapy areas. We are now looking to extend support for our HPC platform; we would like to appoint a person to a fixed term position, whose role will be to ensure that existing technology is exploited to its full potential within the global computational chemistry capability; and to lead the adoption of new technologies. You will be part of a large computational chemistry group, which combines expertise in molecular modelling with a commitment to new method development. Group members contribute to multi-disciplinary compound design teams, providing a range of expert modelling input. Our HPC facilities support activities ranging from force-field based protein simulation and ab-initio quantum mechanical modelling through to chemical database searching. The primary role is to maintain these HPC facilities as a member of the system administration team. This involves working closely with scientists to ensure new computational techniques for Drug Discovery can optionally exploit this environment. A further role is to develop web-based platforms based on the LAMP stack (Linux + Apache + MySQL + (PHP | Perl | Python) ). These are vital to our Cheminformatics activities, and support a wide community of people involved in the early phase of efforts to find new medicines. A background in chemistry or a related subject will be of value, given our emphasis on cheminformatics. You also will have proven skills in software development, within the context of scientific computing. Experience in administering a UNIX/Linux network would be beneficial. This is a fixed term position for 2 years.
