Group Leader Structural Biology

Grade: 9

EMBL site: EMBL Hamburg

Commencing date: To be determined

Job description: EMBL is building an integrated facility in structural biology at the PETRA-3 ring at DESY, Hamburg. The optical properties of PETRA-3 will allow the operation of world-class synchrotron radiation beamlines from 2010/11, providing an ideal research environment for future challenges in structural biology. The [EMAIL PROTECTED] facility will include three beamlines with applications in biological macromolecular crystallography and small angle X-ray scattering, a state-of-the-art facility for sample preparation, including a facility for high-throughput crystallization, and an infrastructure for automatic data interpretation. The successful candidate will utilise the present and future facilities at EMBL-Hamburg for most challenging projects in structural biology. Possible projects could focus on large protein complexes, integral membrane proteins, or difficult proteins with special fold properties. The project proposal should ideally be of biomedical relevance. The candidate will also lead the present and future sample preparation facilities at EMBL-Hamburg, which will become an integrated component of the future [EMAIL PROTECTED] infrastructure.

Contract: An initial contract of 5 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
