Time is available for correlated optical spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction at beamline X26-C of the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This dedicated capability is available full time and can be accessed by on-site visits, or via our Mail-In program. We offer rapid and flexible beamtime scheduling through our web site:

The incident light is currently delivered from a Newport 75W Xe arc lamp (~350-850nm) through fiber optical cables and a microscope objective to probe a ~25 micron region of the cryo-cooled crystal. The optical spectra are typically collected before, during and after x-ray exposure, in less than one second with an Ocean Optics USB 4000 CCD-based spectrophotometer. The data can be collected and analyzed with the SpectraSuit software package in a LINUX environment.
