PHD STUDENTS AND POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY AT THE LEIDEN
UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER

TWO PhD STUDENTS are sought for a NWO funded project to study the structure and
function of macromolecules that form part of the dynamic cytoskeleton. M.S. or
equivalent degree in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biophysics or biological
sciences is required.
Previous experience with electron microscopy, image analysis, X-ray
crystallography, or protein expression and purification would be an advantage.
We are looking for a highly motivated applicant that wants to excel both in
theoretical and practical tasks and would like to work in an
internationally-oriented research environment.
Appointment is for four years.

A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available to work on methods to improve on the
resolution and quality of models of macromolecular complexes obtained with cryo
electron microscopy.
You hold a university degree in structural biology, informatics, chemistry or
(bio-) physics.
The ideal applicant has experience with high-resolution electron microscopy,
image analysis, and X-ray crystallography. Experience in protein expression and
purification is an advantage.
You have an excellent record in presenting your work in scientific papers and
at international conferences. You are an enthusiastic team player with good
communication skills and attention to detail. Appointment is for two to four
years.

At the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), The Netherlands, we are
continually seeking to improve the quality of healthcare. You will work within
the Electron Microscopy section of the department of Molecular Cell Biology.
This group specializes in techniques for electron microscopy, correlative
microscopy, cryo-tomography, image analysis and cell biology to gain new
information on biological systems and their cellular regulation.
Excellent resources for sample preparation, light microscopy, electron
microscopy and image processing are available, including access to three
Technai Fei microscopes (all equipped with 4k cameras) and a dedicated 56
processor cluster. We use access to synchrotrons for X-ray diffraction and
imaging experiments.

The positions could start as soon as possible.

Informal enquires can be made to Dr Raimond Ravelli, telephone +31 (0)71 526 94
