Postgraduate Research Scholarships Membrane Structural and Functional Biology
University of Limerick, Ireland Applications are invited for the above Scholarship positions (two positions are available), funded by grants from Science Foundation Ireland and the USA National Institutes of Health, and based in the Membrane Structural and Functional Biology (MS&FB) Group at the University of Limerick. The Postgraduate Research Scholars will work on the cloning, production, purification, crystallization and/or structure determination of membrane proteins involved in biofilm production and quorum sensing in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Appropriate training will be provided as needed. The MS&FB laboratories are equipped with the latest instrumentation for membrane molecular and structural biology research, some of which was developed in-house (J. Struct. Biol. 142:108; Acta Cryst. D60:1795; Proteins 71:24). Candidates should have a high-level honours (2.1 or above) degree or its equivalent in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline and have a keen interest in the relationship between structure and function. Since lipidic cubic phase crystallogenesis is a major focus of the MS&FB Group synthetic organic chemistry experience is a plus and would be used in support of ongoing lipid screen development by one of the Scholars. Scholarships are valued to a maximum of €24,000 p.a. which includes a maintenance award of €16,000 to the Scholar, fees and consumables. Available from September 2008. To apply send a CV and covering letter, outlining your suitability for one of these Scholarships and providing contact details for two academic referees, to Professor Martin Caffrey at [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> .
