Applications are invited for two open positions in the laboratory of Haixin Sui
in the Wadsworth Center, Albany, NY. One opening is for a postdoctoral fellow
starting in September of 2008. The other is for a Ph.D. student starting in
the spring or fall of 2009. These are funded positions administered by Health
Research, Inc.

The lab conducts research using structural approaches on cell biology questions
that are disease-relevant. Our current interest is focused on the structural
analysis of cytoskeleton and membrane protein complexes involved in motility
and the signaling functions of eukaryotic flagella/cilia. The approaches used
in the lab range widely and include molecular techniques, protein biochemistry,
and structural approaches with an emphasis on advanced electron
cryo-microscopy. The lab is located in the Wadsworth Center which is a
comprehensive state laboratory of public health fostering innovative
health-related research since 1901 (www.wadsworth.org). The electron
microscopy program at the Center enjoys an international reputation on 3D-EM
methodology development and applications.

• Postdoc position - a Ph.D. degree in molecular cell biology,
biochemistry or related discipline is required. The ideal candidate is
expected to have extensive experience in molecular techniques, cell culture,
protein expression and purification, and a solid background in structural
biology. Experience in electron cryo-microscopy is desired but is not
essential.

• Ph.D. student position - interdisciplinary applications are
particularly encouraged for people holding a Bachelor or Master degree in
fields of engineering and physics such as solid state physics, materials
science, and chemistry. Candidates with a background in biophysics,
biochemistry, molecular biology or related disciplines are also welcome.
Applications from people with computer science background focused on computer
graphics or digital signal processing will also be considered. The student
will receive comprehensive training in cell molecular biology and advanced
structural biology, and will conduct his/her research in an excellent working
environment at the Wadsworth Center.

Interested individuals should submit a cover letter describing research
experience and interests, curriculum vitae, and names and contact information
of three references to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
