Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Protein Crystallography
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scientist to join a team investigating the structure of coagulation factors and platelet receptors. The project is funded by the British Heart Foundation as part of a programme grant to study human blood coagulation factors from the instrinsic pathway. These proteins have recently been implicated in a number of pathological processes including heart disease and stroke. The goal is to combine crystallography with fluorescence (FRET) experiments, small angle X-ray scattering and functional assays to provide a complete description of structure and kinetics. This project also aims to develop novel anticoagulants using structure based drug design methodology in place within the School of Pharmacy . The project is part of an international collaboration with research groups based in America and Australia .
The successful candidate will benefit from both state-of-the-art facilities in the crystallography laboratory and the collaborative environment of the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences located on the University Park Campus. Facilities include AKTA protein purification equipment, fermentation facilities, nanolitre dispensing crystallisation robotics, and a modern high flux X-ray generator. This post is based within the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences, Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Structural Biology in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham .
Candidates must have a PhD in protein crystallography. Experience in molecular biology techniques, protein _expression_ and purification is highly desirable.
Salary will be within the range £25,134 - £26,666 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 4 years.
