Employer - Vertex Pharmaceuticals
Location - Thames Valley, Oxfordshire
Job title - X-ray Crystallography - Research Scientist

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a global biotechnology company committed to
the discovery and development of breakthrough small molecule drugs for
serious diseases. The Company's strategy is to commercialise its products
both independently and in collaboration with major pharmaceutical
companies. In addition to our two marketed drugs we have a strong pipeline
of clinical programs principally focused on viral diseases, inflammation,
autoimmune diseases and cancer. Vertex has a well-equipped and
highly-productive structural biology group in the UK, which contributes in
real time to our medicinal chemistry optimisation programs, evaluation of
new drug targets and elucidation of biological mechanism
New in-house crystallography initiatives and access to state-of-the-art
synchrotron radiation offer significant opportunities for enhancing our
capability in the UK. Therefore, we are looking for a highly-motivated
team player who can make a strong contribution in a dynamic scientific
environment where chemists, biologists, computational chemists and
structural biologists work closely together
You should have recently obtained a PhD in crystallography and have
demonstrated expertise in data collection, preferably using synchrotron
X-radiation, and state-of-the-art computational methods for structure
solution and refinement
Although drug discovery expertise is not a prerequisite, experience of
working with membrane proteins is an advantage. A good communicator, able
to work with scientists from different disciplines, you will be flexible,
bright and inventive
