Hi ,

you cant ping "static group" because it just forward the traffic to wire .

let say you have a device which does not have igmp capability but you want
to forward the traffic to it , (may be for scanning/analysis by ips etc) .
Something like proxying igmp request ...

where as "join group" is mearly used for testing purposes ...it joins the
router interface to received the feed.So when you see interface replying to
you  mulitcast pings ..end to end muliticast distribution tree is working
fine...

so each command has different functionalitly ...now let me which is does
cef and which one does process switching  :-)
