If using Auto RP and IP PIM Sparse-Mode then then the AutoRP listner is
required otherwise the routers will not be listening to the 224.0.0.40
multicast address to learn the RP. This command allows the routers to join the
multicast group in order to learn the RP. If using Pim sparse-dense mode then
the routers can learn of the RP through dense mode so the autorp listner
command is not needed.

OK I need to ask this question one last time but in a different way.

Lets say I am working through Multicast and I forget to put AutoRP listner on.
What would nto be working and how could I tell that it's not working.

Example. I need Autorp listner but forget to put it on.
I do sho ? and realize that it's not working and I need to add this command.

Can anybody help. Cant believe I am still frustrated over this command.
Everything just seems to work with it on or without it.

Hi,
I need help in understanding IP multicasting specially sparse mode.... bit
confused
In sparse mode (Auto RP Scenario) we have a RP and Maping Agent (MA) . RP
announces its self to MA and MA receives the request from clients to join a
specific multicast group for which RP is configured or MA announcing. Source
send the source active message to the RP for multicast group it has. Now my
question is that whats the function of PIM DR how it works. I just know that
PIM DR is elected on the bases of higher priority or the higher IP Address.
how PIM DR works in relation with RP or MA
If I am not wrong Source sends unicast packets to PIM DR for specific group
then DR sends those packets to RP and then RP register itself with DR. if its
right then its mean Source dosent communicate with RP ??
Please someone help

Thanks

Hi,

finally someone replied me back :) thanks ..

Ronald , is this means that Source directly sends SA messages to RP ? or it
sends these messages to DR and throgh DR RP gets the message ?

OSL Voice, RS, Security, and SP constituents,

As many of you now know, some changes were made Friday night (without being
tested) that caused mail service to be interrupted over the weekend.

Those responsible (not me - I just got the privilege of having to FIX it :)
have been drug into a back alley and promptly dispatched of.

Anyway - big test message to see if mail is processing correctly. If you do
get this message, REPLY TO ALL - that way all of the messages float through
the OSL mail server and we can confirm in a larger way that mail is back up
properly.

Thanks!
