I've had a lot better luck with cpu utilization after switching from 3725s to 7206s. The 3725s used to do exactly this - if I left a lab for 24 hours and came back to it, the cpu would sometimes be really high even with an idlepc that seemed to work initially; however, now that I've switched to 7206s, I haven't seen this effect.
