Hi all,
The Cayuga Bird Club and I are planning to run a trip to Niagara Falls the
first weekend in December. We will be looking for a variety of gull
species, as well as any other interesting birds that are being seen,
usually at the very least a variety of waterfowl. This is a great chance to
see some cool winter birds and get some practice identifying a challenging
group of birds. The plan so far is to leave early on December 3rd, spend
the night in Niagara Falls, probably on the Canadian side, and then bird
Sunday morning and return to the Ithaca area by mid or late afternoon on
Sunday the 4th.

We will try to all carpool in a single large vehicle, so space will be
limited. Priority will be given to Cayuga Bird Club members, but
non-members may be able to join if we have enough space–or you can always join
the club <http://www.cayugabirdclub.org/membership>! A valid passport or
other valid form of identification will be necessary as we will almost
certainly be crossing into Canada. Last time the per-person cost of the
trip, including splitting gas and lodging, was well under $100 per person
but will vary depending on the final logistics.

If you are interested in coming on this trip, please reply privately to me (
[email protected]) and to Ann Mitchell ([email protected]) by next
Thursday (Thanksgiving, November 24th), ideally as soon as possible so we
have enough time to plan transportation and lodging. There is also the
possibility of shifting the trip to the following weekend (Dec. 10-11) or
making the trip a one-day run if we receive more interest for that option.
Once we receive your responses we can assess possibilities and space and
confirm places on the trip.

Happy birding and gulling wherever you may go.

Jay
