Trip to Sodus Point with Jim Tarolli on Tuesday found few highlights. The ice
edge is currently just behind the Coast Guard station but is not attracting
gulls. A lot of floating pack ice was in the channel and waterfowl were being
moved around constantly. No Barrow's Goldeneye but the Lake is open but for
all the floating ice. On to Geneva where many Canada Geese and Redheads were
visible, and many gulls spread throughout the waterfront crescent. We saw at
least five Iceland Gulls, two Glaucous including an adult, but came up empty on
Lesser Black-backed. Jim spotted a Trumpeter Swan. This part of Seneca Lake
should be awesome for at least the next 6 weeks.

Wednesday on the Oswego River, both female Barrow's Goldeneye continue at
Phoenix, while the pulloff north of Fulton continues to host a pair of Wood
Ducks and many Canada Geese. Very few gulls at either spot. The Oswego Harbor
and lower river area look like they should be loaded but are not attracting a
lot of birds. We did not get to Baldwinsville but a lot is going on there.

Photos of one of the Barrow's are on my Flickr page, as is an otherwise
normal-looking Mallard with all-white outer primary feathers on both wings.
I've never seen anything quite like it before but most stops on the Oswego
River have ducks with domestic influence. I have some nice Sodus photos but
none are up yet - see Jim Tarolli's page for a sense of the scene there. Jim
also managed to snap a flyover by the adult Glaucous Gull at Geneva.
