I headed to Aurora around 1:30 today. Met Dave Wheeler and Jin Tarolli
there. Dave counted 5 HORNED GREBES and Jim found the one EARED GREBE. That
was around 2:40. Good going!

At the north end of Cayuga Lake, I saw all 3 SWAN SPECIES. Lots of CANADA
GEESE, but did not come up with a small goose.

Next stop was Van Dyn Spore Road, a NORTHERN FLICKER was calling in the
woods. A very cooperative NORTHER SHRIKE was half way out past the woods in
the top of a tree looking very shrike-like. That was at 4:00.

I stopped by the Potato Building but there was too much snow to easily pick
out a Snowy Owl, but there was a light-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at the top
of a telephone pole in front of the building.

At the south end of Aurora, 2 GREAT BLUE HERONS flew in front of my car
heading east.

All in all, a great afternoon!
Good Birding,
Ann
