Hi again,

The binocular review is on! We are planning on conducting the first sessions
this coming Monday and Tuesday, May 6-7, on the back patio at the Cornell Lab
of Ornithology. As of now, we are planning on holding the review sessions on
both days during the Noon hour (12-1PM) and on Monday in the late afternoon
from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. (we will add additional sessions depending on turnout)

During these sessions we will have several areas set up on the patio with
groupings of binocular models — top-end, mid-priced, economy, etc. -- more than
100 models in all. We will be asking participants to rate these binoculars
according to a set of characteristics, such as overall image quality, overall
"feel," eyeglass-friendliness, etc. We ask that each participant compare at
least five models within a general price group during each session.

If you are coming to the Lab, you can access the back patio by coming in the
visitor's entrance and going through the visitor center observatory to the
patio door. If you will be arriving after 5 PM on Monday, please notify me in
advance (off line) so we can let you in.

For this review, we are hoping to get birders of all skill levels from novice
and beginning birders to highly opinionated experts. We are also going to
assess the most kid-friendly binocular models, so real kids are welcome as well!

We hope to see many of you there!

Subject: [clo-l] Binocular Review!

Hi all,

Here is a heads up that we are soon going to conduct another giant binocular
review for Living Bird magazine and web site — we have more than 100 binocular
models ready to be reviewed! Jessie Barry and I will be leading the review and
writing up the results.

As with past optics reviews we've conducted, we are inviting all interested
birders (of all skill levels!) to participate in the review and contribute your
opinions and subjective scores for as many models as you choose. We also
welcome any young birders to help us select the most kid-friendly binoculars.

We will conduct the review at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology sometime during
the first two weeks of May — probably on multiple days. Stay tuned for more
details!

KEN
