Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] No Gyrfalcon at Montezuma
To: [email protected]

Bill Watson and I searched for the Gyrfalcon seen yesterday at the
mucks around the Montezuma Complex from morning thru early afternoon
without success. Several raptors were in the vicinity of the East Rd
impoundments including 6 Bald Eagles, 2 Red-tails, 2 N. Harriers,
Merlin, and an ad. Peregrine Falcon that was observed harassing a Bald
Eagle. Hundreds of Mallards, Am Black Ducks, Tundra Swans, and gulls,
including 2 Glaucous, 2 Iceland, ad L. Black-backed, and juv
"Nelson's" (Herring x Glaucous) were in the fields N and S of Route
31. Heading south on Route 89 between Armitage and Mays' Point Roads
we came across a juv. Red-headed Woodpecker perched on a utility pole
on the west side of the road. The pole is in a plowed field just north
of the dilapidated barns to the north of house #292. The bird was
present for at least 10 mins on the pole and was still there when we
left.
