I may have traveled the same route as Jay this morning. Got to watch Cayuga
Vista Shrike as it repeatedly dove at a small bird which was
successfully eluding it through low shrubs behind the Excelsior Systems
building. Missed the Pipits at Myers, but watched a Herring Gull fly through
the park away from the spit with a 7-8" fish - leisurely eating it amongst a
group of mallards down by the lighthouse. Heading east along 34B we turned
south on Collins Rd where a male Northern Harrier swept back and forth over the
field. He appeared to have only one leg and spent about a minute on the ground
each time he dove towards movement in patches of snow/grass. He finally flew
off as activity started at the back edge of the field where 8 Turkey Vultures
left their roost and a red-tailed hawk was flushed out of some pines.
Stewart Park was quiet by the time we arrived at noon. Repeated attempts to
find the N. Shrike on Cherry Rd were fruitless (morning and afternoon).
