Jim Tarolli reported by text message to me that he and Joe Brin did not see the Cattle Egret or the Whimbrels (reported by John Gregoire on Thursday at Puddler's Marsh). An Avocet continues at K-M and they were lucky enough to see Brad and Mike and the Western Sandpiper.
I presume Cattle Egrets roost in trees (but I'm not sure). If it's still around MNWR it might be flying in to K-M at sunset with other herons and egrets. Or possibly going to wherever Green Herons roost there. In retrospect it would have been fun to stake the bird out at Benning late in the day and see which way it goes (if anywhere). Dave W.
