Viewing from near the southwest corner of Cayuga Lake I eventually saw 2 male and 1 female LONG-TAILED DUCK, so I guess there were at least 4 birds involved.
I also saw:

RED-THROATED LOON - 1 adult winter plumage
COMMON LOON  8
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT  1
PIED-BILLED GREBE 1
AMERICAN COOT 1
BALD EAGLE 1 adult

CANADA GEESE few & distant
MALLARDS few &/or distant
RING-NECKED DUCK 1 male, probably wounded
REDHEAD 1 male, possibly wounded, 4 males fleeing north
HOODED MERGANSERS 1 male, 4 females, all fleeing north
COMMON GOLDENEYE 1 female
COMMON MERGANSER 1 female
RUDDY DUCK 1 female

Thanks, Ann & Bob, for the heads up.

Hi all,

Tim Lenz and I spotted a trio of Long-tailed Ducks this morning at East Shore park. They flew in and landed about 100 feet out from shore. At that point, the male was accompanied by two females.
