Hi all, Ton Schat and I found a juvenile/first winter (according to Sibley) White-winged Scoter at the east end of Stewart Park, just off the ice, floating with the Mallards. This was around 1:30 pm. The bird was swimming around, but soon tucked it's head under it's wing and stayed asleep for the next 20 minutes, occasionally lifting it's head. There was a clearly visible white spot on it's side, where the white secondaries were visible, and a whitish spot behind the eye. The top of the bill also had a whitish wash to it. Count week bird!
