Interesting. These old orchards adjoin maple forest - including one
block that we call the "sugar bush", where there's no understory to
speak of beneath the maples. Walking from the sugar bush into the
orchard you hit a wall of dense shrubbery that's nearly impenetrable
except where we maintain trails. The Hooded Warblers nest in the
dense stuff, but the males often cross into the maples to sing!

Over this way Hoodeds prefer Maple forest with medium understory.
No morels!
However, under those old apple trees is the real connection.;-)
Have also founded Hooded nesting in dense second growth - similar
to Chat habitat.
