Migrants this week:

Compilers’s note: Migrants were the story of the week. If my numbers are
correct 23 new species were reported this week, 15 coming on 5/1. Without going
into individual reports I will just say that, as usual, many of the birds were
seen at traditional spots along Lake Ontario such as Sunset Bay Park, Noye’s
Sanctuary, and Derby Hill. Also many were found near Syracuse at St. Mary’s
cemetary, Green Lakes State Park, Verona Beach State Park and Whiskey Hollow in
the Town of Van Buren.

No reports this week.
Derby Hill
------------
After four cold days the weather finally changed.A few birds struggled
through of the 29th. and then came two great days. 2810 hawks came on the 30th.
and 2325 more came on May 01. Most were, of course, BROADWINGS. Many migrant
songbirds were seen on these days also.

A few birds are still coming through. On 5/1 the season’s first BRANT
were seen and on 5/3 an adult LITTLE GULL was spotted.
Oneida County
------------
4/30: 2 SNOW GEESE, one obviously injured, were seen in the Saquoit area
south of Utica.
Madison County
------------
5/1: An Onondaga Audubon field trip to the Verona Beach State Park turned
up 42 species including 4 warblers.
Onondaga County
------------
5/1: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was observed at a feeder south of Skaneateles
off of Rt.41A. There have been no further reports.
Extralimital
------------
5/2: A MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen near Hanshaw and Freese Roads in Ithaca.
This is quite close to Sapsucker Woods. There have been no further reports.
5/3: An adult FRANKLIN’S GULL was spotted at Meyer’s Park at the south end
of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca. The bird was seen flying south and as yet has not
been relocated.
