Having received word about this afternoon's Mississippi Kite (thanks to Toms
Schulenberg and Johnson), I pulled in at Bluegrass Lane of Hanshaw Rd. around
3:30. Shortly after arriving, I spotted a BLACK VULTURE circling up from the
vicinity of Cornell campus and drifting towards the east over the equine center
woods (Tom S.) got it as a yard bird from his house. Other birds in the sky
proved to be a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, COOPERS HAWK, sev. TURKEY VULTURES, and sev.
RED-TAILED HAWKS. After being joined by Paul Anderson for awhile, we had a
scare when a couple of distant Ring=billed Gulls flew below the horizon,
showing gray and black pointed wings. Also in the field there was a singing
SAVANAH SPARROW, BOBOLINK, displaying HORNED LARK, and flyover AMERICAN PIPIT.

While we watched, we heard that Tom J. re-spotted the KITE from Judd Falls Rd.,
again heading towards Ithaca along Fall Creek. The tall woods around Stewart
Park seem a likely area for this bird to end up - hopefully for a reappearance.

Earlier in the morning, I cleaned up on some of yesterday's arrivals, finding
the CERULEAN WARBLER in Renwick Woods, BROWN THRASHER, sev. BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERS, many YELLOWS, and a drumming RUFFED GROUSE behind the airport, at
least 10 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS in the bird-feeding garden at the Lab of
Ornithology (very impressive close views), and a singing NASHVILLE WARBLER in
my yard.
