I spent a happy two hours Monday at the Empire State fairgrounds listening to and watching upland sandpipers, savanna sparrows, eastern meadowlarks, and horned larks. There is a hawk on a nest in the tree line east of the fields. The mottled shading of branches and leaves made it hard for me to see the patterns on its head.

Our neighbors at 63 Besemer Hill Road have a brown thrasher singing each morning for two hours. It spends a good amount of time on the utility pole and seems to have had some contact with roosters.
