Diversity continues despite lower numbers/activity at the Freese Road community
gardens. I stopped by between 1115 and 1230 today and it seemed very quiet
compared to yesterday much earlier in the morning when there were so many birds
flying back and forth between the gardens and the wood edge and walking in the
parking lot. I was by myself today and I covered the whole garden area, as
opposed to yesterday when we only covered the south half and weeds. The nine
sparrow species I found were:

Fox - 1 in center of north
Song - many, all spiffy, but of slightly varying hues
Savannah - 2
Vesper - 1 in center of north; flew north to enclosure
Chipping - 4
Field - 2
White-crowned - many in south half, where they are as numerous as Songs; mostly
immature
White-throated - 1 along woods edge
Dark-eyed Junco - a flock of about 8 on northeast edge

Also present:

Canada Goose - 1 heard from across the road
Red-tailed Hawk - 2
American Kestrel - 1 female
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 heard
Blue Jay
American Crow
Tufted Titmouse - 2 commuting between woods and sunflowers
Eastern Bluebird - 1 on wire
Northern Mockingbird - 1 singing from southwest
American Goldfinch - numerous
Brown-headed Cowbird - 1 pair
