FEATHER NUTMEG CAKE

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup shortening
11/2 cup sugar
3 beaten eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk*
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

*or use 1 cup milk less 1 tablespoon and add 1 tablespoon vinegar. Let set a 
few minutes

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Beat eggs and add to creamed mixture. 
Mix all cr.ed ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with 
butterĀ­ milk. Beat till well mixed. Add vanilla. Bake In greased and floured 
9 x 13 pan for 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Immediately frost with coconut 
frosting.

BROILED COCONUT FROSTING Combine 6 tablespoons melted butter, 1/2 cup brown 
sugar, 1/4 cup cream or milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup shredded 
coconut. Spread over warm cake. Brown under broiler until light brown. Can 
be served warm or cold.
