Can't you go to Michaels craft store and get one of the Wilson cake pans 
(hopefully with a 40% off coupon).  I'm pretty sure I've seen a cute lion 
pan from them.  You could take a 9" x 12" cake (a second one) and cut up 
pieces for a palm tree for either side of the lion.  If you did something 
like this, you could use any simple cake recipe you want.
