I've recently bought the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PHP-5- Objects-Patterns-Practice/dp/1590593804">PHP 5 Objects, Patterns, and Practice</a> - bought it to just read more about Object Orientated PHP and using Design Patterns - BUT having read it (I'm still digesting it really) - it has helped me to understand the architecture and rationale behind things like Cake a lot more - so I would really recomend it - especially if you can get it out of a library)
